JAY — An income survey was mailed in December to sewer users in an attempt to get more grant money to offset a $3.9 million sewer conversion of the North Jay sewer system.
Survey will be collected door to door between Jan. 7 and Jan 25.
The North Jay Wastewater Treatment Plant will be decommissioned and be replaced with a sewer pumping station. The sewage from North Jay will be sent to a collection system near Jay Plaza to be treated at the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The median household income of residents in Jay exceeds by $400 the threshold to qualify for grant money.
Jay hired Maine Rural Water Association to conduct an income survey of the sewer users. The cost is up to $30,000.
The town hopes the results of the income survey will reduce the median household income of residents who use the town’s sewer system. The town of Jay could then qualify for grant funding to reduce the amount of money that needs to be borrowed for the project.
Any questions or concerns about this project should be directed to Mark L. Holt, superintendent of the Jay Sewer Department, 207-645-4246 or Town Manger Shiloh LaFreniere 207-897-6785. Any questions about the survey should be directed to Alex Wong of the Maine Rural Water Association at 207-841-9488.
