PARIS — A Paris man arrested in 2017 after setting fire to a building owned by the Dead River Co. was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court to five years in prison and three years of supervised release.

Daniel Thompson, 21, also known as Daniel Walker, was charged with arson and damaging property used in interstate commerce by fire, according to U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank.

Thompson pleaded guilty to the charge Aug. 10, 2018.

Thompson was also ordered Friday to pay more than $184,000 in restitution.

According to court records, Thompson on June 5, 2017, broke into a building owned by Dead River Co. in South Paris and used gasoline to set a fire.

The building was used to store files and equipment, according to court records.
