AUBURN — Don and Donna Helwig celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and Donna’s 70th birthday by taking a seven-day cruise to several of the Hawaiian Islands.
They swam in the beautiful blue waters of Molokini (Maui) with giant sea turtles and saw Moray eels, octopi and an abundance of colorful coral and fish.
On the Big Island, they visited dormant volcano craters featuring steam vents and also attended a spectacular luau on Kauai (the Garden Island), where a cast of entertainers told the story of Hawaii in song and dance.
A special treat was viewing the Na Pali coastline from the ship, a sight they will never forget.
After the conclusion of the cruise, they returned to Kauai to spend five days enjoying the flowers, sights, surf, sand and food.
They then had the opportunity to fly first class, which was a Christmas gift from their son, Steve, and daughter-in-law, Heidi, who accompanied them. Steve and Heidi celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary while on the cruise.
