LEWISTON — Police said a man who was stabbed on Pierce Street on Monday morning was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Rocky Creamer, 42, who lives locally, sustained a single stab wound to his upper torso and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, Lt. David St. Pierre said.

Police arrested 34-year-old Stephen Craig Gurney of 32 Bush Lane in Litchfield and charged him with aggravated assault, a Class B felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He was being held at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn late Monday on $1,060 cash bail, a corrections officer said.

The assault happened at 74 Pierce St. around 8:50 a.m. Creamer walked to Poirier’s Market on Walnut Street. The incident was reported at 8:49 a.m., St. Pierre said.

“It’s not a random thing. They’re known to each other,” St. Pierre said.

“I don’t think anyone’s in danger,” he said of possible public concern.
