Strong winds with gusts up to 55 mph could cause power outages today across Maine, warns the National Weather Service.

The NWS has declared a wind advisory until 6 p.m. for most of Maine. This means 15 to 25 mph winds from the west are expected, according to the NWS. The strongest winds are expected to occur at the higher elevations and downslopes of the mountains.

Wind gusts could blow around unsecured objects, blow down tree limbs and cause power outages. The NWS urges extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. It also advises securing outdoor objects.
