LEWISTON — The city will hold a litter pickup day from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 17.
Residents are encouraged to pick up litter in their own neighborhood or go anywhere in the city where there is a need. Church or community groups are encouraged to adopt an area.
Volunteers will use an online form, lewistonmaine.gov/litterevent, to register and agree to the event waiver, as well as identify locations to be cleaned.
Lewiston Public Works staff will be on site at Kennedy Park from 8 a.m. to noon to distribute bags, gloves, pickers and buckets.
A safety procedure flyer will be given out with supplies to ensure COVID-19 and overall safe practices for participation. The safety flyer is also available at lewistonmaine.gov/littersafety. In addition, a safety station pop-up tent will be on site at Kennedy Park.
Those who have unsafe items for pickup should call Public Works Dispatch for same-day pickup by trained personnel at 207-513-3000, ext. 3450.
Bags of collected litter can be returned to Kennedy Park for disposal at a drop-off site near park gazebo. Public Works will pick up bags of litter at a specified location if previously stated on online registration/waiver form or called into dispatch the morning of the event at 207-513-3000, ext. 3450. Residents can put collected bags of litter at curbside with their regular weekly curbside pickup.
To be eligible to win a prize, teams are encouraged to post pictures of picking up litter and use a #nolitter tag. Prize categories are biggest team, most creative and most colorful.
