The Lewiston Farmers’ Market plans to open for the 2021 summer season from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, at the municipal parking lot on the corner of Lincoln and Main streets.

The market will operate every Sunday thereafter, through November; rain or shine. As in last season, customer and vendor health is of utmost importance. The market will continue to prioritize meeting people’s food and community needs with safe practices and guidance from the Maine Federation of Farmers’ Market and Department of Agriculture Conservation and Forestry.

Visitors to the market this year can expect to shop with new and returning vendors selling farm fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, grass fed beef, chicken, lamb, pork, homemade baked goods, maple products, small batch cheese and milk, fresh-cut flowers, perennial plants, handcrafted soap, fiber art, crafts, and more. Live music and community programs are to be brought back in a safe manner.

Customers can purchase goods with a range of currency, including cash, credit, debit or SNAP/EBT (food stamps), and WIC. SNAP/EBT shoppers can continue to access the “Maine Harvest Bucks” program (maineharvestbucks.org), which provides users with bonus fresh fruits and vegetables; for every SNAP/EBT dollar spent, the buyer gets a coupon back to purchase more fresh produce at no extra cost.

The market also plans to run its “Market Rewards” program, whereby loyal customers receive a gift certificate after five visits, and the popular “Seniors & Veterans Day” program, in which seniors 62 and older, or veterans, receive a gift certificate to the market every first Sunday of the month. Gift certificates are available at the information booth.
