Central Maine Power Co. restored power late Monday afternoon to about 6,900 electricity customers in Portland and Falmouth who lost electricity after a transformer failed on Bishop Street, the Portland Fire Department said.

Most of the outages occurred in Portland, with about 225 occurring over the line in Falmouth, according to the Central Maine Power website.

Fire fighters were called to Bishop Street to assist with the blown transformer, said Portland Fire Department Capt. John Brennan.
