AUBURN – James F. Lyman, 77, of Oxford, died Friday, May 28, 2021, at Androscoggin Hospice House, Auburn, after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Jim was born on Sept. 15, 1943, in Livermore Falls, Maine, the youngest child of Chester and Barbara Lyman.He graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1961. After graduation, Jim worked locally for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served six years active duty, attaining the rank of E6. His duty stations were: Fort Dix, N.J.; Fort Harrison, Ind.; Seoul, Korea; U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.; Pleiku, Vietnam; Fort Totten, N.Y. and Stewart Field, N.Y. While in the Army Jim married Sally Paffendorf of Newburgh, N.Y. He was introduced to her by his future mother-in-law who greatly disliked her daughter’s current boyfriend and thought Jim was a better catch. The rest is history. They had two children; Barbara and Jamie. Sally passed away in 2010. After discharge he worked at International Paper Company in Jay, Maine, for 19 years. In 1988 he began work at the Champion Paper company in Bucksport, Maine as a Journeyman Millwright and Pipefitter until his retirement in 2006. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and golf. During his military years he was active in skydiving in Korea and at West Point. He also learned to fly at the USMA Flying club.Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Kirby and her partner Steve Morin of North Waterboro; his son, Jamie Lyman and fiancée Amy Lamarche of Bradford; a sister/brother-in-law, Ada and George Jackman of Jay; his partner of several years, Suzanne Bowen of Oxford. Jim had five grandchildren; Cameron and Evan Kirby and James, Andrew and Victoria Lyman. He had one great-grandchild, Silas Kirby and his nieces and nephew, Donna Barbato, Debbie Fournier, David Gile.He was predeceased by his wife, Sally, his parents, a brother/sister-in-law, Phil and Jeaninne Lyman and nieces Tammy Lyman, Margaret Gile and Sandra Jackman.
