The Dallas Plantation Annual Town Meeting was held on June 11, 2021 under a tent located at the Town Office parking area. The Warrant contained a full page “Thank You” to retiring Health Officer Sheri Oldham. Kit Caspar retired as Town Meeting moderator, a role he performed for many years. Chris Farmer was chosen to be the moderator for this year’s meeting and capably guided the voting on all sixty Warrant articles.
Linda Jones was elected to a three year term as a Town Assessor joining Assessors Mark Bridges and Patricia Ellis. Linda was also elected as First Assessor. Kathryn Pye was re-elected to a two year term on the Budget Committee.
Most articles passed with little or no discussion including approval of creating an Interlocal Agreement to facilitate improved broadband service. Article 18, which dealt with raising money to pay for services provided by the Town of Rangeley passed. There was some discussion about the cost of fire protection which has increased by over $20,000.00 in the last two years and the level of effort to control costs. The cost of solid waste disposal decreased by more than $6,000.00 and septic sludge disposal remained the same. The Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club request for support did not make it onto the Warrant because the request did not contain the financial information required by Dallas Plantation town policy.
The meeting lasted a little less than two hours and was attended by twenty-three voters who all seemed to depart in a mood of contentment.
