LEWISTON — A 4-year-old girl struck by a car on Knox Street on Thursday was recovering at home a day later.
Police said no charges are anticipated for the driver of the car that struck the child shortly after 5 p.m. near the corner of Knox and Maple streets.
After interviewing witnesses and reviewing footage from surveillance cameras, police determined that the 4-year-old ran into the road in front of 62 Knox St. just as a car was being driven by.
Courtney Carroll, 23, of Lewiston, driving a 2017 Nissan, was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the girl.
The 4-year-old suffered no visible injuries as a result of the collision, police said, but she was taken to a hospital as a precaution after complaining of pain. She was treated and released.
Carroll was not hurt in the crash, although she appeared visibly shaken at the scene.
