NORWAY —Norway Memorial Library invites students in fourth and fifth grade to attend a six-week book discussion and activity series. This book club will meet on Thursdays, October 7 to November 11, from 4 to 4:40 p.m. to discuss Serena Says by Tanita S. Davis. The first ten to sign up will receive a free copy of the book. To register, stop by the Norway Memorial Library at 258 Main Street and see Annika, children’s librarian, or call 743-5309 ext. 4. Ten spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

In Serena Says, eleven-year-old Serena St. John does not like to stand out, unlike her best friend, JC. But when events put JC in the path of a replacement best friend, Serena has to figure who she is outside her friend’s shadow. Serena is smart and intuitive with relatable fears and insecurities. Author Tanita S. Davis capably touches on chronic illness, mental health, and friendship growing pains in this quiet but impactful slice-of-life novel.

The Karana Book Club’s mission is to provide fourth and fifth-grade students with books and related crafts celebrating strong, diverse female leads in fiction and non-fiction.

For more information, call 743-5309 ext. 4 and speak with children’s librarian, Annika Black. Norway Memorial Library is located at 258 Main Street in Norway, Maine.
