Donald Ashton
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Donald Ashton, 79, passed away at BSMC, Springfield, Mass, Monday, Aug. 30, 2021.
Donald “Goose” was born in Lewiston, son of the late Stanley and Mary L. (Hennessy) Ashton. He graduated from Lewiston High School.
Donald was employed at Appleton Security in Holyoke for many years and previously worked at Springfield Museums, and Savage Arms in Westfield, Mass. He also worked for many years at Pete’s Tire Barn in Orange, Mass.
Goose enjoyed playing golf and loved watching the U.S. Open. He loved baseball and was an avid Yankee fan. He relished in playing craps at MGM, the Kentucky Derby and betting on football squares. He mostly loved his family and spending time at gatherings.
Goose was predeceased by an infant daughter, Karen Ashton in 1965; and Donna Hutchinson in 2016.
He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Claire (Richard) Ashton; his devoted daughters Brenda, Maureen, and Susan; his cherished grandchildren Daryl, Sarah, Katie, Ashley, Devin and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Justin, Kendra, Chloe, Dannielle, Penelope, Adalynn, Henry, and Rosalie; a dear brother and sister, David “Ernie” Ashton, of Lewiston, and Barbara Ashton-Annear of Auburn; several nieces and nephews; and many special cousins Diana, Val, and Steve.
A celebration of life will be at The Brickhouse Tavern, Indian Orchard, Springfield, Mass. on Sunday, Sept. 12, from 3 to 5 p.m.
At Goose’s request, he will be cremated and interment will be private in Maine.
