Beverly Peterson
LEWISTON – After a rich and so well-lived life, Beverly Peterson, 95, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 in Lewiston after a brief illness, just in time for a heavenly 9:00 p.m. date with her departed husband, Pete.
Born in Lewiston Oct. 24, 1926, to Alton F. Jepson and Glennis Wing Jepson, Bev attended Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High school in 1944. She married Richard “Pete” Peterson, her high school sweetheart on June 8, 1946.
After Bev and Pete were well underway with their family, she decided to attend nursing school when she was 34 years old, a rare choice for a woman in 1964. She graduated from CMGH School of Nursing in 1966 and, ultimately, State University of New York, Albany, NY in 1989 and the University of Southern Maine in 1994 with a Masters in Nursing. She was a member of the faculty at the CMMC School of Nursing from 1967 to 1996 and was certified in Pediatric Nursing by the American Nurses Association. The nearly 1,000 students she helped to mold into caring, highly competent nurses responded in kind as she made her way through the medical system toward the end of her journey, reconnecting with some of her former students along the way.
Bev was a member CMGH/CMMC/MCHP Nursing Alumni Association, serving as Editor of the Alumni newsletter until just a few months before her passing. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 31 and the Wing Family of America. She was secretary and a member of the Board of Directors of the Auburn Grandstand Club in its early years as well as a former member of the CMMC School of Nursing Board of Trustees.
Bev’s life revolved around family and friends, her children, and grandchildren, visiting and traveling with family and friends and innumerable hours cheering for the Red Sox and Patriots.
Bev was predeceased by husband Richard Peterson, their first daughter, Cheryl Mattingly, and grandson Joshua Tod Mattingly. She is survived by her beloved remaining children, daughter Gay Metevier and her husband Paul (Chip) Metevier of North Yarmouth and son, Stephen Peterson and his wife Sandra Lane Peterson of Richmond, Va.
Much-loved surviving grandchildren and great grandchildren include Kathryn Mattingly and her partner David Harvey of Bath, Kristoffer Mattingly and wife Jessica Mattingly of Petaluma, Calif., Seth Metevier and wife Jennifer Metevier of Scarborough, Mary Brousseau and husband Carl Brousseau of Standish, Lauren Shumeyko and husband Jonathan Shumeyko of Cumberland, Molly Paul and husband Trevor Paul of North Yarmouth, Bradford Peterson of Richmond, Va., Leah Munn and husband Jonathan Munn of Midlothian, Va. Great grandchildren include Logan McConaughey, Corah and Reese Metevier, Elsie Shumeyko, Caleb Paul and Jameson and Riley Rose Mattingly.
