Gerald R “Jerry” Litalien
MEXICO – Gerald R “Jerry” Litalien, 72, of Mexico, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021 in the afternoon surrounded by his family at Central Maine Medical Center after a brief battle with Covid despite being fully vaccinated.Jerry was born on Jan. 23, 1949, the son of Roland and Catherine (McDonald) Litalien. Born and raised in Mexico he was a 1968 graduate of Mexico High School. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He worked for the Maine Central Railroad for 33 years as a conductor.He married his high school sweetheart Elizabeth (Bettie) Grondin on August 20, 1970. Married for 51 years, they raised a family of two kids Merrie Sue and Joshua.He was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles, and the Mexico Historical Society.Jerry was not one to sit around. He kept himself busy in his garden or making something. He could make anything and was creative using his resources. He loved making rock walls and collected rocks. Wherever he went in his travels, whether just a ride or a trip to the ocean he would find a rock he liked. He was a friend to the backyard birds and squirrels. He took delight in feeding chipmunks and squirrels from his hand.He loved spending time with his grandchildren and always had fun with them. Jerry loved playing pool at the Eagles or taking a ride to the Oxford Casino.Jerry was a social person and a friend to everyone. He could strike a conversation with strangers at an event and be friends at the end. He will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and everyone who met him. He was a huge Patriots fan, watching every game. He was thrilled when he attended a game a few years ago with his son and grandson.He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Bettie Grondin) Litalien of Mexico; a daughter Merrie Sue (Frank) Spurr of Lewiston, son Josh (Colleen) Litalien of Turner; grandchildren Bailey, Lucas and Annie Spurr of Lewiston, and Josh Faunce of Lewiston; his brothers David (Suzanne) of Mexico and Paul (Tammy) of Rumford; several nieces and nephews and many cousins.He was predeceased by his parents; and a granddaughter, Jessica Faunce. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Central Maine Medical Center for the care of Jerry.
