The snow that is forecast for Wednesday evening is expected to change to rain Thursday morning.
A winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service starts at 7 p.m. for most of the northern areas of Maine — including Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties.
During the change from snow to rain, light mixed sleet and freezing rain is likely across interior valleys and northern areas. The NWS forecasts snow and sleet accumulations between 1 and 3 inches — up to 4 inches in the higher terrain.
A brief period of snow is expected to arrive tonight traveling west to east. The snow will transition over to rain with some light sleet/freezing rain mix during the transition period, followed by an abnormally warm Thursday likely preventing any snow accumulation. #MEwx #NHwx pic.twitter.com/2UAV9UKOLZ

The NWS warns that the snow can create slippery roads and Thursday morning commuters could encounter hazardous road conditions.
Temperatures will be mild by Thursday afternoon and Friday with highs in the 40s. Snow is possible late Saturday into Sunday, according to the NWS.
