William “Bill” A. King
LISBON – William “Bill” A. King, 93, died Dec. 14, 2021 peacefully at home. Born in Lisbon on Oct. 17, 1928 to Agnes (Arquette) and Frederick King.Bill was avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, Bill was happiest when with friends and family. A proud veteran, he served in the U.S. Army starting in 1946. During his military service, Bill fought bravely in the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring in 1970 as a master sergeant. Among many citations, he was the recipient of three purple hearts, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, three bronze stars and two combat infantry stars. Committed to serving his community and fellow veterans, Bill was a long-time member of American Legion post 158 and the VFW. He is survived by his loving spouse, Joanne M. King; and his son, Todd King. In addition, Bill considered Todd’s sisters Wendy Springer, Candace Breton and the late Penny Bourgoin, plus Joanne’s children, Lisa Bolen and Tim Gamache as his own children.It should be noted how Tim and Lisa selflessly cared for Bill in his declining years. Bill was fortunate to have over 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Bill was preceded in death by brothers Merle King and Maurice “Pete” King, plus sisters Helen Hodgkins, Clara Douglas and Georgette Bickford. Memorial services will be scheduled at a later time.Bill deeply cared for animals and described the death of his beloved dog as one of the saddest days of his life. He also cared for many cats throughout his life and Bill’s backyard was regularly supplied with day-old bread for the birds and other creatures who visited regularly.
