DEAR SUN SPOTS: If anyone in the community has uniforms from the Franco American War Veterans and American Legion Post 22, please return them to me.
We have new members coming into our post who need the hats and uniforms. This request also includes the ladies’ auxiliaries for these two organizations. Please and thank you. Contact Jerry Dewitt at 576-0376. — Jerry, no town
ANSWER: Writing to Sun Spots is a great way to get the word out regarding just about anything. Please help Jerry by returning these uniforms if you’re not using them. He does a tremendous amount for the community and for veterans so let’s make his life a bit easier.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for local places to take my 10-year-old granddaughter holiday shopping (not big-box stores). She’s been saving her allowance and is very excited to have an outing with me. Because of a disability, we need to find places that are low stress. — Janet, Mechanic Falls
ANSWER: The note below came to my inbox recently and I think this place might be just the ticket for you and your grandchild.
This has happened before where a question comes in then an answer comes in right behind it!
When I was that age, I loved finding gift items at the drug store and the hardware store, but times have certainly changed since then. Perhaps a thrift store in your area would have items that would catch your granddaughter’s eye and be within her budget, too.
Readers, if you have low-key places to shop in the area that are your favorites, let us know.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I stumbled upon a very neat, unique little shop in the middle of nowhere that I would like to share with Sun Spots readers. Off the beaten path in Poland, I found Grandma’s Cottage at 14 Hope Springs Road.
If you go in at the right time, you will probably smell cookies baking in her oven and she will have hot chocolate on the stove.
She shares this free with the public until her cookie jar is empty each day.
She also sells antiques in her Cottage, which is filled with new and gently used items, along with gift baskets she has put together. I found it to be the perfect place to pick up gifts for people on my list who are difficult to buy for. I also had great satisfaction in helping a grandma get started with her dream.
Her Santa’s Workshop has toys for children, as well as great stocking stuffers for kids and gifts for older people.
A stop at her Cottage will just get you into the Christmas Spirit. Remember, it is off the beaten path, but well worth looking for. I hope your readers enjoy the shop as much as I did.
She will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from now until Christmas, and into the future as well. — Rita, Auburn
ANSWER: This place sounds very sweet and cozy. I can’t wait to check it out.
