HARRISON — A Naples man is dead after losing control of his snowmobile on a trail Saturday, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Daniel J. Hammond, 46, was riding on a snowmobile trail at approximately 10:30 a.m. when he lost control of his Ski-Doo 850 and crashed into the brush, MDIFW Communications Director Mark Latti said in a news release.

Hammond, accompanied by three friends, was attempting to cross Cape Monday Road when he veered off the trail. He was wearing his helmet, Latti said. Hammond remained conscious following the crash, but succumbed to his injuries 20 minutes later.

Hammond was transported to Halls Funeral Home in Casco where he will be examined by the state medical examiner, Latti said.

The Harrison Fire Department, United Ambulance and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.

No further information was available Sunday evening.
