A Wells woman died in a single-car crash early Saturday, hours before a blizzard began to blanket the state.

Anna Orben, 26, failed to negotiate a turn on Burnt Mill Road in her Volkswagen Jetta, went off the road, and struck a tree, Wells police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It had not started snowing yet Saturday when the crash occurred.
