Miss Louise Close who directed the production of “Springtime” was the guest of honor at a dinner party at the DeWitt House after the Thursday evening performance. The party was arranged by Mrs. Harry Rodgers and Miss Madeline Joyce and the table was prettily decorated in “Springtime fashion” with dainty place card favors. Miss Close was given a handsome corsage bouquet of violets. A lobster supper was served. Those present were Dir. and Mrs. Harry Rodgers, Mr. and Mrs. Rose Wilis, Mr. and Mrs. Frank F. Wellman, Mrs. Willis M. Abbott, Carolyn Granquist, Madelyn Joyce, Frances Dally, Gertrude Macomber, Louis Chandler, Margaret Lawton, Blanche Lumiette and Napoleon Martel.
50 Years Ago: 1972
“I am confident that the forces tending to unite us are stronger than the Influences working to divide us.” Rabbi David Berent of Congregation Beth Jacob, Lewiston, and member of the Theology Department of St. Joseph’s College, North Windham, told those gathered at the annual rally of ‘the Catholic Youth Organization at John Baptist School in Bangor. on Sunday. “The very existence of the CYO and this conference, attest to the fact that brotherhood is more than an abstract ideal in America today. I believe that we are making progress and we are moving toward acceptance by more and more people of the idea that all men are brothers.” Rabbi Berent said. He urged that the difficulties that have separated Christian and Jew for 2.000 years must be undone and their undoing should suffer no delay,’
25 Years Ago: 1997
Preschool story times are being held at the Auburn Public Library Children’s Department from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesdays through April 20, except during school vacations. The mornings feature picture book stories, finger plays, songs and rhymes that young people will enjoy. All preschool children are welcome with a grownup. At 10 a.m. Saturday library volunteer Judy D’Amour will tell young children about the Chinese New Year and all may join a dragon parade. In addition, “The Three Little Pigs” and other pig stories will be shared.
