Jeanine Lamar Kivus

LEWISTON – Jeanine Lamar Kivus, 90, of 515 College St., Lewiston, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at the Hospice House in Auburn.

Born in Washington, D.C., on March 20, 1931, she was the daughter of Judge Alton A. Lessard and Atala Lamar Lessard. She attended Lewiston schools and the College of New Rochelle, and in 1952 she married John E. Kivus, former FBI agent and later a partner in the law firm of Lessard and Delahanty. Mr. Kivus passed away in 1973.

Always civic minded, Jeanine became active in local affairs, serving as president of the Patronesses of St. Mary’s Hospital, on the board of Pathways, and as a member of Community Little Theater. She worked for 15 years in the Emergency Department of St. Mary’s Hospital, and dedicated her life to raising her five sons.

She is survived by her sons John and wife Linda of Scarborough, Kevin and fiancee Maureen Downs of Lewiston, Scott and wife Sara of Lewiston, David of Owl’s Head, and Timothy and wife Carrie of Lewiston; a sister, Maryatala Lessard of Freeport; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Albert and Burpee Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Liturgy of the Word service at 7 p.m. Interment in the spring, Mt. Hope Cemetery.
