RUMFORD — A family has been displaced after a fire made their home uninhabitable Monday evening,  Chris Reed, chief of the Rumford Fire Department, said.

The cause of the fire at 540 Hancock St. was determined by the fire marshal to be clothes covering the dryer vent, Reed said.

The fire caused extensive electrical damage, melting the home’s water heater and fuse box.

The family has been relocated to the Comfort Inn in Wilton by Rumford General Assistance, Reed said.

It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control, he said.

Mexico, Peru, Dixfield and Andover fire departments also responded.
