PARIS — Calling it a work in progress, Town Manager Dawn Noyes said the officials are working on a marijuana ordinance.

Residents had previously rejected a local ordinance at a special town meeting in October 2020. The ordinance would have established strict guidelines to allow up to three small retail marijuana facilities.

During Monday’s selectmen meeting, Noyes said her office has received numerous calls on the status of the town’s policy.

“People are asking about it,” she said, adding that officials are “reworking” the earlier proposal.

She provided no details except that officials are monitoring the potential changes in the law being considered at the State House in Augusta.

In other business, selectmen scheduled a public hearing Monday, April 11, for a remote participation policy. According to state law, the town is required to have a policy to allow participation by board members who can’t attend meetings in person, but could participate via Zoom or some other videoconferencing program or device.

The board voted to set the annual Town Meeting for Tuesday, June 21, at 6 p.m.

Selectmen accepted a bid of $30,890 from A&A Property Maintenance of Norway to mow the town parks and municipal lots and do spring and fall cleanup. It was the only bid received.

Noyes told the board she is proposing to make the recreation director a 40-hour-a-week position. It’s now 10 hours per week, but Noyes noted that person has far more work than can be accomplished in that time. She said the person would also work two days in the cemeteries and eight hours as the General Assistance Administrator.

The board approved a liquor license for Yianni’s House of Pizza at 155 Main St.

Noyes noted in her report that the Highway Department is back at full strength following a recent hire. She also plans to interview candidates for the open bookkeeper position.
