RUMFORD — A 17-year-old local boy charged with stabbing his grandmother multiple times Thursday is being held at a South Portland facility.
Rumford Police, Rumford Fire Rescue and MedCare Ambulance personnel responded about 12:55 a.m. to a 911 call from a woman who said she was stabbed at an Andover Road home. She had multiple injuries, was taken to Rumford Hospital by ambulance and is expected to survive the attack, according to a Rumford Police Department statement.
Police said her grandson was in the home with a knife and arrested. He was charged with aggravated assault and taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
His arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 12 in South Paris District Court.
Police are still investigating.
