Erin Girzone EMILY DELAMATER

NORWAY — On Friday, March 25, 1-3 p.m., Erin Girzone, owner/founder of the Good Health is a Habit Wellness Studio, located in Waterford, will offer an “Introduction to Somatic Movement” at the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine, 59 Winter Street, Norway. Erin is an Essential Somatics® Movement Teacher, Yoga Instructor,  and ACE Certified Fitness Trainer & Behavior Change Specialist.

A somatic movement practice is a fabulous way for cancer patients and survivors to manage their ability to move as freely and pain-free as possible, help with chronic pain, and help individuals find more ease in any and all daily movements: walking, running, reaching up, bending down, twisting, lifting etc.

“As an Essential Somatics® Movement Teacher, I help clients create and maintain a daily movement practice to reduce/eliminate chronic pain and movement restrictions,” says Erin. In somatic movement philosophy, an individual is seen as a “soma” whose physical, mental, and emotional selves influence one another. A cancer survivor, for example, may experience chronic muscle tension (the physical self) as a result of an invasive surgery (physical) or because of the anxiety/fear triggered by the situation (the mental/emotional self). The practice of Somatic Movement involves releasing muscular tension by re-education the nervous system with safe and gentle movements lying down, seated and or standing.”

This introductory class is open to anyone impacted by cancer. Masks are required.
