50 Years Ago: 1972
At the Wednesday evening meeting of the Community Little Theater Association three Bates College students, Sarah Jo Pearson, of Connecticut, George Papageorgiou of Greece, and Alan Dunham of Carver, Mass. presented a program of entertainment. The three presented a one-act play entitled “I’m Really Here.” Mrs. Stanley Gibson introduced the performers. Following the play Carl Raimondi showed slide takes during the association’s last production, “Fiddler on the Roof.” Mrs. James Randall, president announced the next play, “The Curious Savage,” to be presented in May, the dates to be announced. She also introduced the directors, Barry Best and Gilbert Twitchell, who told the background of the play and announced some members of the cast. Mrs. Stan Bernard told the members this forthcoming play, for the first time, will have a sponsor, namely Twin City Council, United Commercial Travelers, and part of the proceeds will be donated to the School for Retarded Children.
25 Years Ago: 1997
The Native American Appreciation Days committee will host its second annual Winter Pow-Wow Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at the Stevens Avenue Armory in Portland. The event will feature Native American drumming, singing and dancing along with craft vendors, native food, storytelling and flute playing. There will be a children’s craft area where young ones may learn by doing as they make a “native craft” item. Grand Entry, the beginning of the day’s dancing, will be at noon each day.
