In response to some of Republicans, including former Gov. Paul LePage, they would rather cut income tax instead of sending checks to the people who are most in need.

Unfortunately, that would stop people who are on Social Security from getting anything, because they don’t make enough money to owe any state taxes as it is.

I imagine that other low-income people with families may also not make enough money to have to pay state income tax.
