Ronaldo “Pat” Cailler

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Ronaldo “Pat” Cailler passed away on April 3, 2022, in Ormond Beach, Fla., at the age of 98. He was born on March 13, 1924, in Lewiston, the son of Rolando E. and Gertrude Cailler. He attended Lewiston High School, where he was a fullback on two undefeated football teams, and a member of a hockey team that qualified for the New England Scholastic Championship Tournament. He graduated from high school in 1943, telling one reporter, “I was not the valedictorian.” After high school, he continued to play hockey, competing in the Lewiston Cardiac League at the age of 54. He also became an excellent bowler and golfer. He was the last surviving original member of the Fairlawn Country Club, which opened in 1963. He was club champion when he was 60, and scored holes-in-one there when he was 85 and 90 years old. He was also president of the Musical Literary Club Golf League. In addition to playing at Fairlawn, Pat contributed countless hours to the upkeep of the course and his many friendships there, and has been called “Fairlawn’s greatest player when it comes to having fun on the course.” Following high school he went to work for his father at Cailler’s Market on Lisbon Street before working for D&L Slade for 30 years. He retired from Hall & Knight, a plumbing and electrical firm, in 1986. He was predeceased by Dorothy, his wife of 72 years; by a brother, Robert CaiIler, and a sister, Janine Grenier. He is survived by his sister, Doloris “Dodo” Bergeron; and his children, Dan Cailler and wife Gail, Susan Potvin and companion Jim Witherell, and David Cailler and wife Sara. Also surviving are grandchildren Brian, Trena and Caitlin; great-grandchildren Accalia and Walter; and great-great-grandchildren, Lei’yah and Omari. Services will be held later this summer.
