Priorities, according to my dictionary, are an order of importance, putting one thing ahead of another.

The priority of some our representatives in Augusta is to pass a bill to allow alcohol sales in sport stadiums. But our legislative leaders are unwilling to take up a bill presented by Rep. Laurel Libby to suspend, until the end of the year, Maine’s 30-cents-per-gallon sales tax on gasoline. This would give all taxpayers a welcome break from the high cost of travel.

State legislators are compensated for their travel with our tax dollars, meaning their gas is paid for by us. It seems their priority is to purchase spirits at a game rather than give Mainers a break on skyrocketing gas prices.

I’m so glad they can now afford their drinks when at a game. It’s all about the priorities.
