100 Years Ago: 1922

Plans for the purchase of a new organ were discussed at yesterday’s meeting of the West Auburn Ladies Aid, held at the vestry. Some of the members, ten of whom were present, came in the morning and at noon a picnic dinner was served. Two quilts were tacked and arrangements to decorate the church for Easter Sunday were made.

50 Years Ago: 1972

A fishing derby for Auburn youngsters, co-sponsored by the East Auburn Community Unit and the Auburn Recreation Department will be held Saturday, May 20, at the Auburn Municipal Beach.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Several local groups have joined to sponsor a patriotic program including rededication of the Civil War monuments in Leeds and a display of 20 historical flags. The North Turner Presbyterian Church, the Nezinscot Lodge, the Sons of Union Veterans Camp and The Third Maine Volunteers have organized the public demonstrations. The events begin Sunday morning with a Sunday service at the church in North Turner, then a public drill by the Volunteers at 10 am followed by a rededication of the Civil War monument on Monument Hill in Leeds. Luncheon will be served at noon by the Lodge and church deacons at the GAR Hall in North Turner. A presentation  called a “History of the Flag” will follow.
