TORONTO — Aaron Judge homered and drove in three runs, Jameson Taillon allowed one run in six innings, and the New York Yankees extended their winning streak to 11 games by beating the Toronto Blue Jays 9-1 on Tuesday night.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run home run in the ninth, his fifth of the season. New York leads the MLB with 34 home runs this season, including 23 in the past 11 games.

Judge’s homer was his ninth, tying teammate Anthony Rizzo for the big-league lead. Judge has 13 RBI in his past five games after getting a two-run double in New York’s six-run seventh inning.

Taillon (2-1) allowed five hits, walked none, and struck out four to win his second straight decision.

Josh Donaldson and Marwin Gonzalez each had RBI doubles and Aaron Hicks reached base four times as the Yankees improved to 18-6. It’s the seventh time in franchise history that New York has won 18 of its first 24 games.

New York’s winning streak also is the longest in the majors this season (the Yankees won 13 straight games from Aug. 14 to 27, last year).

Toronto, meanwhile, snapped a streak of 32 games without consecutive losses, dating back to Sept. 24, 2021. The Blue Jays also lost a series for the first time this season.

One of New York’s runs in the seventh came when home plate umpire Ron Kulpa ruled Gonzalez had evaded a tag from Toronto first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in a rundown between third and home. Replays appeared to show Guerrero did tag Gonzalez, but Toronto had already lost its challenge earlier in the inning.

After two of the first three batters reached against him, Blue Jays right-hander Alex Manoah retired 15 straight batters, striking out six.

Hicks got a one-out single in the sixth, but Hicks was thrown out trying to steal second with Judge at the place. Two pitches later, Judge hit a game-tying, 427-foot homer into the second deck in left.

Adam Cimber (4-1) replaced Manoah in the sixth and gave up RBI doubles to Donaldson and Gonzalez.

Julian Merryweather replaced Cimber but didn’t retire any of the four batters he faced. After Gonzalez scored on Jose Trevino’s fielder’s choice, Hicks hit an RBI single and Judge followed with a two-run double.

ASTROS 4, MARINERS 0: Houston Manager Dusty Baker won his 2,000th game, becoming the 12th manager in major league history to reach the milestone and the first Black man to do it as the Astros beat visiting Seattle.

Baker’s career record is 2,000-1,745 and he’s the only manager in major league history to take five different teams to the postseason.

TWINS 7, ORIOLES 2: Ryan Jeffers hit a tie-breaking, three-run homer in the sixth inning and surging Minnesota won at Baltimore for its fourth straight victory.

The Twins have won 12 of 13 to move six games over .500 (15-9) and into first place in the AL Central, which does not have another team with a winning record.

Minnesota has outscored the opposition 63-25 during its 13-game run, including 25-7 during its current four-game win streak.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

METS SWEEP BRAVES: Carlos Carrasco dodged trouble for eight innings, Pete Alonso homered against Kyle Wright on an off night for Atlanta’s breakout right-hander and New York beat visiting Atlanta to complete a doubleheader sweep.

Alonso had two RBI singles in the opener as the Mets pounced early against Charlie Morton, and New York’s bullpen closed out a five-hitter to beat the Braves 5-4. Alonso had two hits in each game.

Carrasco (2-1) stranded seven runners with some masterful work out of the stretch, keeping Atlanta off the board despite six hits and two walks. The 35-year-old threw 96 pitches and struck out five, bouncing back well after allowing eight runs in his previous start against St. Louis.

Carrasco became the first Mets pitcher to finish eight innings this season. He helped New York pitch its sixth shutout in 26 games this year.

DIAMONDBACKS 5, MARLINS 4: Christian Walker had a home run, double and three RBI, and Arizona held on to win at Miami.

Arizona starter Humberto Castellanos completed his longest outing of the season, pitching 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Castellanos (2-1) allowed four hits and struck out four.

Pavin Smith also homered and Ketel Marte drove in two runs for the Diamondbacks, who have won 6 of 8.

BREWERS 6, REDS 3: Brandon Woodruff struck out 12 to tie his career high, Willy Adames hit a three-run homer and Milwaukee beat visiting Cincinnati.

The NL Central-leading Brewers have won 6 of 7. The 12 Ks from Woodruff (3-1) came over 5 2/3 innings, in which he gave up all three runs and no walks. The 2021 All-Star had struck out 15 batters over 10 innings in his previous two starts.

INTERLEAGUE

RANGERS 6, PHILLIES 4: Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim homered and Zach Reks snapped a tie game with a two-RBI double, leading Texas to a win at Philadelphia.

Garver and Heim went deep off Phillies starter Ranger Suarez (2-1) and the game was tied at 3 into the sixth inning. Heim singled and Nathaniel Lowe reached on third basemen Alec Bohm’s error. Reks broke the tie with a pinch-hit, two-RBI double off reliever Seranthony Dominguez, and Marcus Semien’s RBI single made it 6-3.

WHITE SOX 3, CUBS 1: Tim Anderson homered and Jose Abreu made two nice plays at first base, helping the White Sox win at Wrigley Field.

Looking to dig themselves out of a rough start, the banged-up White Sox won for the third time in four games. Michael Kopech pitched four-plus scoreless innings and Jake Burger had two hits.

ROYALS 7, CARDINALS 1: Bobby Witt Jr. hit his first major league home run, Brad Keller pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning and host Kansas City ended a four-game losing streak.

Witt had two hits, two RBI and scored twice. MJ Melendez got a hit in his big league debut and Edward Olivares had a career-high four of the Royals’ 15 hits.

Keller (1-2) allowed four hits in 6 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out two. He permitted a baserunner in every inning but sixth, but never more than one until the seventh.

NOTES

GUARDIANS-PADRES POSTPONED: Mike Clevinger’s wait will last another day.

The right-hander’s first start for San Diego since undergoing elbow surgery in 2020 was postponed Tuesday as a rainy forecast pushed back the Padres’ scheduled game against the Cleveland Guardians.

“I just want to get this under my belt,” Clevinger said in San Diego’s clubhouse shortly after the game was called despite partly sunny skies above Progressive Field. Clevinger did get in some long toss and flat-ground pitches in the outfield grass.

The rainout – and Clevinger’s return – will be made up Wednesday as part of a traditional doubleheader starting at 1:10 p.m.

REDS: Cincinnati put slumping first baseman Joey Votto on the COVID-19 injured list, making the move before a game against Milwaukee.

Manager David Bell said Votto hasn’t tested positive for the virus.

“We’re precautionary as far as being able to put him on that COVID IL, which is really a day-to-day thing until we know more,” Bell told Cincinnati reporters.

Votto was in the original starting lineup to face the Brewers, but showed symptoms.

The six-time All-Star is hitting just .122 with no home runs and three RBI, and had played in all 22 Cincinnati games this season. He has struck out 29 times in 74 at-bats.

TWINS: Infielder Miguel Sanó will undergo surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee and there’s no timeframe for his return, Manager Rocco Baldelli said.

Sanó was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. He sustained the injury on April 26 while celebrating Minnesota’s 5-4 victory over the Tigers, a game decided on the final play.

Sanó returned to play Saturday but left early because of knee pain.

“He did try to play through it but he did something during the course of that game, and we had to take him out,” Baldelli said.

Sanó was not in the clubhouse Tuesday afternoon before the Twins faced the Orioles. Baldelli said the procedure will take place later this week.

CUBS: Chicago placed left-hander Drew Smyly on the bereavement list and brought up right-hander Robert Gsellman from Triple-A Iowa.

Smyly was slated to start Tuesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox at Wrigley Field. Right-hander Scott Effross got the call instead, beginning a bullpen day for the Cubs.

Left-hander Locke St. John was designated for assignment. He was optioned to Iowa on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Gsellman went 0-1 with a 3.77 ERA in 17 games last season with the New York Mets. He agreed to a non-roster deal with the Cubs in March.

NATIONALS: Washington reinstated Dee Strange-Gordon after the infielder/outfielder completed a weeklong rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Rochester.

To make roster room for Strange-Gordon, the Nationals optioned infielder Lucius Fox to Rochester and transferred right-hander Aníbal Sánchez from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL.

Strange-Gordon is an 11-year veteran and two-time All-Star who was signed in December to a minor league deal after not playing in the major leagues last year. He played in four games for the Nationals before going on the injured list last month because of illness.
