EB Hoff

BETHEL — Our speaker this week was Telstar senior EB Hoff, who received an educational grant award from us last year to attend a summer program at Brown University on experimental pathology. The 5-week program was a combination of online and in-person study.

EB and her study partner chose to experiment with grape extract as a natural inhibitor of estrogen production, as estrogen can support the growth of breast cancer cells. Though their results were not statistically significant, they found that cells died off in the presence of grape extract.

While at Brown, EB was also able to explore museums and other features in Providence and made friends with other students from around the country.

She was inspired to pursue a degree that she hopes will lead her to further experimental pathology studies and plans to major in biology at Bowdoin this fall. She thanked us for helping to make her participation in the Brown program possible.
