Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline is encouraging families with children to join him for storytime gathering set for 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 10.
The event will be held at Simard-Payne Memorial Park on Beech Street in Lewiston.
The books read will focus on teamwork, highlighting one of the favorite sayings of former Lewiston Mayor John Jenkins, “Together Each Action Matters,” according to a news release from City Hall.
Sheline will read “Someone Builds the Dream,” “Going Places,” and “Boxitects.” Bicycle safety handouts, compliments of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, will also be on site.
The storytime will be a pre-ceremony activity held prior to the 5:30 p.m. naming of the John T. Jenkins Memorial Footbridge after the former mayor of both Lewiston and Auburn.
Jenkins died in 2020, and both cities’ elected officials voted unanimously in 2021 to name the footbridge that connects Lewiston’s Simard-Payne Park and Auburn’s Bonney Park in Jenkins’ honor.
