WEST PARIS — It is that time of year when the church takes its summer break until mid-September.

We already have speakers lined up for fall, including Ethan Whitaker, author of a delightful book entitled “One Man’s Journey to See Every Bird in Maine” on September 18 (mark your calendar). Until then, June offers inspiring and encouraging messages in these times. All are welcome! Worship services are held every Sunday at 9 a.m. followed by coffee hour.

In July and August, the Universalist Church of Sumner will hold worship services. See the schedule, provided below.

June 5, “The Impossible Will Take a Little While” led by The Rev. Fayre Stephenson. As we enter the season of primary elections, our country continues to be troubled. Some doubts, fear, emotional burnout, and the phenomenon known as “compassion fatigue” eat away at our reserves of hope. Using the wonderful little book The Impossible Will Take a Little While compiled by Paul Rogat Loeb as our guide, at this service we will remind ourselves what keeps us going when times get tough.

June 12, “Job in 2022” led by Rodney Abbott. We are going through a time when there are many people who are faced with incredible pain and uncertainty. We welcome Mission Congregational this Sunday. Our church congregation will visit Mission Congregational on June 26 at 9 a.m.

June 19, “Juneteenth and Flowers” led by The Rev. Fayre Stephenson. At our last service of the church year, we’ll tell the story of the origins of the Flower Communion, and we will celebrate our own Flower Communion. We will also tell the story of the Juneteenth holiday and celebrate African American freedom. You are invited to bring flowers from your garden but, don’t worry, if you don’t have a flower garden, there will be plenty of flowers to share.
