POLAND — The Select Board learned at Tuesday night’s session that the Route 26 Sewer Project came in under budget by $430,000.

Wright Pierce informed selectpersons that its engineering services came in $130,000 under budget and construction contractor Pratt & Sons finished the $2.8 million job $300,000 under budget.

The board authorized spending up to $50,000 from the town’s allotment of the federal American Rescue Plan Act to help offset higher asphalt costs for roadwork projects.

Town Manager Matt Garside said liquid asphalt costs has risen from an expected $670 per ton to $800 per ton. He said the higher cost for asphalt amounted to $36,000 and increases were also seen in culverts, gravel, diesel and calcium.

The balance in the ARPA fund stands at $127,405.

Manager Director Daniel Lay of HM Payson provided a fiscal year-end report on the town’s investment portfolio. He recommended the town put aside $150,000 from the Stone Trust Account in a cash and bond account. That figure is the amount approved at town meeting for expenses associated in the design stage of the Ricker library expansion.
