WEST PARIS — The West Paris Downhill Derby held its first race of the season on Saturday, July 9. The winners of the race were Cameron Palmer, second place; Steven McCann, first place; and Karson Hewins, third place. There will be more Downhill Derby races held on Saturday, August 13, and Saturday, September 10.

Racing is free to any child ages 7-14. Registration is 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The race starts at 10:30 a.m. If your child does not have a derby car and would like to race, there are cars available for them to use on a first-come, first-serve basis. A helmet and sneakers are required for racing. Want to race but you’re older than 14?

The Downhill Derby would love to add the Anything Goes races back into the schedule. If you have or would like to build a race car for the Anything Goes, feel free to bring it on race day. Anything Goes races will be held after the regular derby races have completed each race day. Anything Goes cars can be anything on wheels with steering and brakes, but no motor (no vehicles).

In the past, Anything Goes cars have been built out of a canoe, a furnace, a BBQ grill, and a pool just to name a few! The snack shack will be open on race day serving hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks. Come to race or just come cheer on the kids and have lunch.
