OXFORD — Thousands of residents in Androscoggin and Oxford counties lost power Saturday night after a vehicle hit a utility pole on French Road in Oxford just after 9:30 p.m., according to police.

As of 10:10 p.m. Saturday, more than 8,000 Central Maine Power Co. customers were without power, including all of Mechanic Falls. Significant outages were also reported in Oxford, Poland, Minot, Hebron and Otisfield, according to CMP’s online power outage report.

Races at the Oxford Plains Speedway were delayed due to the power outage, according to a Facebook post from Racing America, an auto racing news organization on scene. No emergency lighting was visible in photographs or videos of the speedway posted to social media.

Power was restored to the Oxford Plains Speedway at 11 p.m.
