To the Editor:

I was saddened to read of the passing of Betty Hayes. My partner, Jane Miller, and I enjoyed our summertime conversations with Betty and her husband Del, at their homes on Upton Brothers Road and Crockett Ridge Road. Betty was a geyser of interesting information about the people and history of the Norway area.

A former Advertiser Democrat editor once told me that Betty’s newspaper column was her “favorite part of the paper.” Mine, too.
