Harry Thomas “Tom” Dostie
LEWISTON – Harry Thomas “Tom”. Dostie, 70, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully with his two daughters by his side on Oct. 1, 2022, having been preceded the year before by the love of his life, Irene, to whom he was married for almost 45 years.
He was born to parents Leo J. and Arlene Mae Dostie on Sept. 15, 1952 in Lewiston, where he grew up and attended Montello Jr. High School until 8th grade. He met the love of his life Irene Prevost in 1974 and he began his career on July 19, 1979 as a Highway Worker 2 for the City of Lewiston until his retirement on Nov. 30, 2010. Irene and Tom were married on June 18, 1976, and one month and 10 days later, welcomed their first born child, Kelly Dostie; six years and five months later they welcomed their second child, Kristine Dostie. Their family was now complete.
Tom was born and raised Catholic, received all his sacraments, however in 2018, he began attending East Auburn Baptist Church where he became an active member and was baptized by full immersion and re-accepted Jesus Christ as his savior.
Tom was a dedicated husband, father, uncle, brother, and grandfather before his passing. He was supportive in his daughter’s endeavors, he loved animals including cats and dogs, especially his cat, Buttercup, who was with him when his last breath was taken.
Tom was also known as a DJ within the Lewiston area as HT’s Dancing USA, he was also always willing to be involved in parades to show his support for the troops, and was super happy when Justin joined the Navy.
Tom enjoyed his coffee time at Dunkin Donuts with his friends every afternoon, he enjoyed tinkering around in his shed, always finding something to do or build.
He truly enjoyed camping with Irene, especially at Powderhorn Campground where at times, there were 15 people camping with them in tents on site 4p, as site 2p was his. In 2009, Isaiah was only five days old and was camping with his pepere. Tom was overjoyed when he had his first granddaughter with Isabella, and was even over the moon when his great-granddaughter, Adilyn Michelle, was born, and then later found out he had another one in March of 2022, where he met Layla for the first time, the day before his passing, pepere waved to Layla before leaving the hospice house, and that would be the last time she would see him. His family was everything to him, and he referred to Justin, as the son he never had. Justin was always with his grandparents every weekend, he was never home growing up.
Tom is survived by his oldest daughter, Kelly Thompson and husband, Desmond, of Sabattus, youngest daughter, Kristine Adams and husband, Daniel, of Lewiston; his sisters Teena Provencher of Rumford, Hope Hughes of Lewiston, and Linda Scott and husband, Mike, of South Carolina, his sister-in-law, Elaine Prevost Fenderson, of Lewiston; his nephews Kyle Fenderson and wife Chelsea of Lewiston, Andrew Fenderson of Lewiston, Corey Prevencher of Rumford, Jennifer Blodgett and husband, Kelly, of Rumford; his grandchildren Matt Adams of Lewiston, Justin Dostie of San Diego, Calif., Isaiah Thompson and Isabella Thompson of Sabattus; and two great-granddaughters, Adilyn Dostie of San Diego, Calif. and Layla West of Lewiston.
