Charmaine Rafuse Andrews

AUBURN – Charmaine Rafuse Andrews was born on Sept. 12, 1931, in Rumford, and passed on Oct. 10, 2022, in Auburn, with her sons by her side.

The daughter of Ashley and Annie Rafuse, she graduated from Stephens High School in 1950. After high school, she worked for the Rumford Locker Plant. During this time, she met her future husband, Harold, who worked for WRUM Radio.They married in Rumford in 1955. As Harold continued his career and education, they lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire before returning to Maine.

After settling in Poland, Charmaine became very active in the community. She was a lifelong member of the Poland Community Church, where she served in numerous positions, as well as the President of the Ladies Guild. She worked at the Ricker Memorial Library and later was elected trustee. She was instrumental in establishing the Poland Scholarship fund and served as its first treasurer. Charmaine was a very active volunteer at the Poland Spring Preservation Society and was the Wedding Coordinator for many years. In addition, she was very active in the Excelsior Grange in Poland and organized many grange dinners. She and her husband moved to Auburn in 2004, and after Harold’s passing, she moved to Schooner Estates. She had numerous hobbies, including knitting, needlepoint, cross stitch, painting, and gardening.

She is survived by her sons Paul of Falmouth, David of Auburn, and Mark of New Deer, Pa. She is also survived by extended family.

A memorial service will be held at the All Souls Chapel at Poland Spring, Maine at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022 with a light lunch to follow.
