Dorine Labbe

BAILEY ISLAND – Dorine Labbe, 82, of Bailey Island, passed away peacefully on Oct. 21, 2022 with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Joseph and Albertine Long, on Jan. 11, 1940, in Portage Lake. “Doe”, as she was known, grew up in Lewiston and graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1958. In 1964, she married Maurice Labbe, her husband and life partner of 58 years.

Doe was one of five children. She is survived by one sister, Cleo Bosse, of Lewiston. She was predeceased by her sisters Joan Cloutier Wills, of Canterbury, N.H., Linda Perryman, of Lewiston, and her brother, Darrel Long of Turner. Doe was a loving mother to four children. Her youngest Jamie, who brought unparalleled joy to her life, died in 1992, at the age of 17.

She is survived by her children John Labbe of Cumberland, Ann McLaughlin and husband Jim, of Chestnut Hill, Mass., and Mike Labbe and wife Shannon of Brunswick. Doe, or “Memere” as she was affectionately known, is also survived by grandchildren, Jake, Ellie, and Caroline McLaughlin, Jack and Audrey Labbe, Tommy and Lauren Labbe, and Megen Benner.

Doe possessed amazing creative and artistic talents. She was often called upon to make window treatments, pillows, and decorative bedding for her children as they tried to emulate their mom’s own beautiful homes.

Doe was also an accomplished artist with wonderful still lifes and landscapes displayed throughout her home. True to her French Canadian heritage, she was also a wonderful cook. Entering her home, one was often greeted by the magnificent aromas of her delicious culinary creations. Her chicken and dumpling stew was a family favorite.

However, Doe’s true gift was her care for others. She possessed a unique skill of making everyone who visited her home feel welcome and important. For years she hosted “Le Reveillon De Noel” at her home on Pinewoods Road in Lewiston. This wonderful family tradition on Christmas Eve brought together generations of family and friends. When she and Moe moved to Bailey Island, she continued to welcome guests and to share her own corner of Paradise. She will be missed by many.

A ceremonial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Lewiston, (use the Deer Road entrance). It will be followed by a reception at Fish Bones Grill, 70 Lincoln St., Lewiston. Family and friends are welcome. For those who wish to join the procession to the cemetery, please arrive at Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home, 305 Alfred A Plourde Pkwy, Lewiston, no later than 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
