
NEWARK, N.J. — Nico Hischier scored off a rush with 8:10 to play and the New Jersey Devils beat the slumping Calgary Flames 3-2 Tuesday night for their seventh straight win.
Dougie Hamilton and Ryan Graves also scored as the Devils matched their longest winning streak since February 2011. Vitek Vanececk made 33 saves in helping New Jersey overcome a sub-par performance in returning from a three-game trip western Canada.
Nazem Kadri and Tyler Toffoli scored power-play goals for the Flames, who have lost six straight. Jacob Markstrom made 17 saves.
Hischier’s sixth goal came against the flow of play. The Flames kept the puck in the Devils’ end for about two-plus minutes. Tomas Tatar got the puck out of the zone to Hamilton, who found Hischier coming down the middle. His shot beat Markstrom between the pads.
ISLANDERS 4, RANGERS 3: Adam Pelech, Brock Nelson and Anders Lee scored third-period goals as the visiting Islanders rallied for another comeback victory.
The Rangers were ahead 3-1 heading into the third before Pelech scored his first of the season 14 seconds into the period. Nelson tied it with his fifth at 12:46 on the power play before Lee put the Islanders ahead at 14:30 with his eighth goal.
Semyon Varlamov made 37 saves for the Islanders, who won for the seventh time in eight games.
It was the second straight night the Islanders rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to win, doing the same against Calgary at home before scoring in overtime.
The Islanders have outscored their opponents 25-11 in third periods this season. They blanked the Rangers 3-0 on Oct. 26 at home to start a five-game winning streak.
Filip Chytil, Chris Kreider and Vincent Trocheck scored for the Rangers. Igor Shesterkin made 22 saves in defeat.
The Rangers have lost three straight at home.
FLYERS 5, BLUES 1: Noah Cates, Owen Tippett and Travis Konecny each had a goal and an assist, Felix Sandstrom made 28 saves and Philadelphia sent visiting St. Louis to its eighth straight regulation defeat.
Wade Allison and Lukas Sedlak also scored for rebuilding Philadelphia, which has won 7 of 12 and garnered 16 points to start the season under first-year coach John Tortorella. The Flyers were last in the Metropolitan Division last season.
Ryan O’Reilly scored for the Blues, who set a club record for consecutive losses in regulation. St. Louis last won on Oct. 22 to improve to 3-0.
CANADIENS 3, RED WINGS 2: Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki scored in the shootout and Montreal won at Detroit.
David Perron was the only Red Wings player to score during the shootout. Detroit captain Dylan Larkin shot wide on the third attempt to give Montreal the victory.
COYOTES 4, SABRES 1: Karel Vejmelka made 32 saves to lead visiting Arizona to a win over Buffalo.
Lawson Crouse, Matias Maccelli, Clayton Keller and Liam O’Brien scored for Arizona.
Tage Thompson scored for Buffalo. Eric Comrie made 20 saves.
CANUCKS 6, SENATORS 4: Bo Horvat scored twice and visiting Vancouver rallied to beat Ottawa.
Jack Studnicka, Brock Boeser, Ilya Mikheyev and Elias Pettersson also scored for Vancouver, and Connor Garland had two assists. Spencer Martin had 37 saves.
Tim Stutzle, Claude Giroux, Drake Batherson and Travis Hamonic scored for Ottawa, which has lost six straight. Cam Talbot had 22 saves.
