Our winter storm gets going Friday morning, continuing all the way through Saturday evening. We will likely all start as snow, before changing over to rain at the coast at some point Friday afternoon.
However, trends for this storm have been colder with a further offshore track. This may keep the coast from changing over to rain as quickly, and possibly not even at all for some parts of coastal Maine.
We will see a very tight gradient in totals along the coast, which makes nailing down the exact number tricky.
The trend has been for a colder storm overall with a track further offshore, this will be something to closely watch through the rest of Wednesday and Thursday.
Inland areas are very likely to see some big snow totals with this storm. Lewiston-Auburn and Augusta are in the 3 to 6 inch range, with some locally higher totals possible.
The totals ramp up even more heading into the mountains.
The foothills and mountains stand a very good chance to see over a foot, totals there will range from 8 to 14 inches.
Luckily, wind isn’t a huge concern with this storm, but it will still be very breezy through Friday and Saturday, which could reduce visibility in areas seeing snow and cause some scattered outages.
Winds will be strongest at the coast with gusts up to 45 mph, strongest winds look to be overnight Friday night.
The whole system wraps up Saturday evening with some lingering mountain snow showers on Sunday.
Overall, much quieter for the second half of the weekend and early to middle of next week.
