Galen J. Cook

SARASOTO, Fla. and NORWAY, Maine – Galen J. Cook, 85, passed away peacefully Dec. 16, 2022, in a Sarasota, Fla., hospital, after a brief illness, surrounded by his three sons.

Galen was born March 20, 1937 in Troy, Maine, the son of Raymond and Estella Cook.

Galen retired in 1989 following a 25-year career with the Maine Forest Service. He was an avid outdoorsman and his hunting exploits are truly legendary.

He is survived by five children, Paul Cook and his wife Laurie of Hermon, Cheryl Sweeney and her husband Phil of Hill, N.H., Terri Richards and her husband Dave of Dover-Foxcroft, Gary Cook of Loughman Fla., Galen Tracy Cook and his wife Sandra of Loughman, Fla. Three stepchildren, Pam Brochu and her husband Luke of Kenduskeag, Juanita Smith and her husband Doug of Norway, Dodi Mingo and her partner Charlene of Bingham, Along with several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

He is also survived by a special friend and life partner Freda Truman of Englewood, Fla., and her children, Lee Truman, Vicky Bartlett, Becky LeClerk and Mark Truman.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Marie (Cook) Shibles and his wife Alfreda Cook.
