Edward R. Charpentier

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Edward R. Charpentier died peacefully on Feb. 7, 2023 at his home in Fredericksburg, Va. at the age of 86. His loving wife, Irene, of 63 years was at his side.

Born in Auburn in 1936, son of Edward A. Charpentier and Laura (Morin) Charpentier. He was one of 11 siblings and the last remaining of his family.

He worked at Shapiros Shoe Shop where he met his future wife through a mutual friend. They were married on Sept. 5, 1959, and a few years later had their beautiful daughter, Donna-Marie.

He would later go on to work for Vincent Fruit and Produce, located on Lincoln Street in Lewiston as a delivery truck driver. He eventually bought into the business, and became a full partner.

He retired in the early ’90s due to health issues. He and his wife moved to Leesburg, Fla. where they resided for 20 years. He enjoyed the warmer winters, sunshine, and making new friends. Oh, how he enjoyed just walking up to whoever he met on the street, and starting up a friendly conversation. He loved spending time with his family, his dog “DJ”, and his cat “Sammy”. He loved the ocean, old cars, planes and boats. He enjoyed retirement to its fullest.

Due to increasing health problems, and the onset of Dementia, he and his wife made the move to Fredericksburg, Va. where they shared a home with his wife’s niece, Linda Richards, and her husband David. He was lovingly cared for until his passing for which his wife, Irene and daughter, Donna-Marie are very thankful for. They would also like to thank Linda and David’s daughter, Nicole Christian, her husband, Brian Christian, and their sons Jacob, Connor, and Kyle for their loving attentiveness, care and support given to their uncle Eddie during this difficult season of life.

He is survived by his wife, Irene (Legere) Charpentier; only child, Donna-Marie Charpentier, her partner in life, Keith Elliott; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held later this summer in his hometown.
