
AUBURN — Linda L. Burgess Barter, 72, passed away on Feb. 9, 2023 at the Androscoggin Hospice House. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Virginia Coates Burgess.
Linda graduated from Edward Little in 1968, received her undergraduate degree from University of Southern Maine and earned a Masters of Social Work from Boston University.
Linda began her career in Social Work at CMMC in the child abuse program before working as a psychotherapist in a private practice for many years. In her work, and personal life, she touched the lives of countless members of the community.
Linda had two children, Adam and Elizabeth, whom she loved very much.
She made her life and home with her partner of 32 years, Janet Rensink.
She enjoyed reading books, doing crossword puzzles, watching “Days of our Lives” and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She was known for her sharp wit, humor and kindness. Her grit and determination carried her through her 36-year journey with Multiple Sclerosis.
She is survived by partner, Janet Rensink, of Auburn; son, Adam Barter (Trisha) of South Portland, daughter, Elizabeth Barter (Sarah) of Auburn, stepdaughter, Sonya Runquist (Mark) of Machias; grandchildren Riley, Teagan and Finley Barter-Levine and Sapphire and Willow Barter; sisters Cindy Blackie (Tim) of Windham, Kandy Morgan (John) of Plymouth, Mass., Wendy Roy (Phil) and Staci Burgess (Roger) both of Auburn; aunt and uncle, Betty and Billy Mitchell of Livermore Falls; nephews Ben, Brady, Patrick and Ryan, nieces Abby, Allison, Emma, Kelly and Megan; ex-husband and friend, Wayne Barter of Portland.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Androscoggin Hospice House for the exceptional care they provided Linda.
Services will be held at The Fortin Group at 217 Turner St. in Auburn on Saturday, Feb. 25, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and services following at 1 p.m. You may offer your condolences or share memories at www.thefortingroupauburn.com
