Paul H. Cummings
NAPLES, Fla. – Paul H. Cummings M.D., of Wayne, Maine, and Naples, Fla., passed away March 2, 2023, at Avow Hospice in Naples.
Born in Tewksbury, Mass., Nov. 5, 1930, he was the son of the Reverend and Mrs. John Cummings. He graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts, received a Bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College, Pennsylvania, and an M.D. from Tufts University Medical School in Massachusetts.
Dr. Cummings completed his surgical residency at the New England Medical Center Hospital in Boston and at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He served as a surgeon at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Haiti for one year, served his country as a flight surgeon for the USAF and was an Industrial Physician for United Aircraft Corporation before joining the staffs of Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston until his retirement in 2003.
Paul had a great fondness for Maine and in particular Lake Androscoggin in Wayne where he spent summers as a child, and where he and his family and close friends reunited each summer. He especially loved watching his children and grandchildren enjoy the lake with its myriad boating, skiing, and other water and beach activities.
Dr. Cummings is survived by his wife Pennie of Wayne and Naples, Fla.; his son Scott of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his daughter Lisa Kramer, her husband Erik, his grandchildren Leah, Caleb and Sam Kramer of Scarborough, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. His brothers Donald and John predeceased him. At Paul’s request there will be no funeral visitation.
