
Normand C. Gagne
SABATTUS – Normand C. Gagne, 77, of Sabattus, died Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Homecare and Hospice in Auburn, following a long illness.
Born in Lewiston on March 28, 1945, he was the son of Roger D. and Rose Anna Buteau Gagne. Educated in local schools, Norm worked as a truck driver until his retirement.
A talented musician, Norm played guitar, drums, harmonica, and sang in several bands over the years, mostly playing ’50s and ’60s classic rock. He loved to work on old cars, and restored several classics, including his favorite ‘49 Mercury. He was active in the car show scene, and belonged to several car clubs, including the Knucklebusters and later the Maverick’s Car Club.
Norm is survived by his partner and companion of 48 years, Muriel Merchant of Sabattus; a son, Michael and wife Katherine Gagne of Harpswell, a daughter, Linda and husband Leslie Strout of Minot, a stepson, Jim Merchant of Lewiston, a stepdaughter, Karlenne Merchant of Greene; three brothers, Donald and wife Diane Gagne of Poland, Leo and wife Gail Gagne of Avon Park, Fla., and Adrien Gagne of Sabattus; two grandchildren, Amanda Strout and Jonathan Gagne, three step-grandchildren, Brandon, Cody, and Maraeka Merchant; a great-grandchild, Riana Inman, and a step-great-grandchild, Milo.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 18, at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. Memories may be shared at http://www.albert-burpee.com. Arrangements are under the care of the Albert and Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine St., Lewiston, 207-782-7201.
