Chris Schultz stocks fishing supplies Thursday at Dag’s Bait & Tackle in Auburn. Schultz was helping get the shop ready for open-water fishing season, which starts Saturday. While some bodies of water are open to fishermen year-round, some such as Lake Auburn continue to be closed until April 1. “You always have your diehards,” store employee Brady Ouellette said about the fishermen who use conduit pipes to push their live bait underneath the ice on Lake Auburn. Schultz speaks highly about the quality of fishing in Maine. “I absolutely love the fishing in this state,” Schultz said. “You don’t have to go far.
